Gas leaks as tanker lorry overturns in Malappuram


Thenhipalam (Malappuram): A tanker lorry overturned on the National Highway at Panambra in Malappuram. Gas leakage was reported following the mishap which happened at 3.30 am on Friday. The tanker lorry lost control and fell into a large pit by the road. The residents in a distance of half a km was evacuated to avoid any casualty. Power supply was also disconnected temporarily. The police instructed the householders not to light the LPG gas stoves considering the situation. Residents were asked to evacuate through mic announcements immediately after the incident. The rescue operations are carried out by the fire and rescue personnel and police. The traffic has been controlled on the national highway following gas leakage. The vehicles are being diverted from Kakkanchery and Chelambra. The overturned tanker lorry was going to Kochi from Mangalore. The IOC officials have already reached the spot. Presently, the operations to transfer the gas to another tanker is going on. Many fire and rescue units have reached the spot to cool down the tanker.
