3 airlines to conduct services in Kannur airport

Kannur: Kannur International Airport Ltd (KIAL) MD V Thulasi Das said that three airlines including Air India Express, IndiGo Airlines and GoAir will conduct services in the Kannur airport at its first phase. The inauguration is set for December 9.  SpiceJet will also start services soon, he added.

KIAL MD met the representatives of various domestic and foreign airlines and airport service agencies who came to visit the airport on Tuesday.

The first services will be to Gulf countries. The foreign airline companies like flydubai, Air Arabia, Oman Air, Qatar Airways and Gulf Air also attended the meet apart from the domestic airlines like Air India Express, Jet Airways, IndiGo and GoAir.

Many airline company representatives pointed out that Kannur lacks good hotels. They also suggested that hotels with advanced facilities should be setup in Kannur, Thalassery, Mattanur and Iritty.

MD said that the tender has been called on for seven-star and five-star hotels near the airport. Budget hotels will also be setup after alloting land, he added.

The customs examination of the airport was completed on Tuesday. A team of CISF has been deployed for security purposes. They will officially join from October 17. 

UDAN services will be implemented and can be arranged to any route, he said.

Automatic baggage system coming up

Advanced automatic baggage system will be arranged at the airport. It will be the first of its kind in the country. This will be done in co-ordination with the company, Vanderlande.

Passengers can self check-in at the airport and print the boarding pass providing the PNR number.

The contract to build cargo complex at the airport has been given to ATSL company.
