Will not back TDB if it files Sabarimala report in SC: Pinarayi

Pathanamthitta: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has flayed Travancore Devaswom Board's move to file a report on the prevailing situation in Sabarimala that witnessed massive protests after the Supreme Court allowed women of child-bearing age to enter the hill shrine.
“If the TDB were to file a report in without making a proper study of the situation, the government will not back it,” the CM asserted.
Reaffirming the government's stand not to go for review petitions, Pinarayi said that the state government would make the necessary arrangements and provide protection to all the devotees visiting the hill shrine. He was speaking at an explanatory meeting organized by the LDF at Pathanamthitta.
The CM's statement comes even as TDB was seeking expert legal opinion on the further steps to be adopted in the Supreme Court.
The TDB is still engaged in legal talks over whether to submit a report before the apex court or resort to other measures. The TDB plans to settle the issue before the start of the annual pilgrimage. The TDB is also taking care to avoid lapses while presenting the case before the Supreme Court again.
The board had earlier said it would file a report in SC on the tense situation in Sabarimala with devotees blocking women who attempted to enter the hill shrine.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will consider the writ pleas and review petitions regarding the case on November 13. The annual Mandala pilgrimage season at Sabarimala will begin on November 16.
