More domestic, international flights to take off from Kannur


Air India Express will operate new services to three countries from Kannur airport, said Air India Express CEO K Shyam Sundar. 

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has promised that more domestic and international flight services will begin from Kannur airport. He made the statement while attending a meeting with CEOs of various airlines on Monday here.

Addressing the meeting, chief minister asked Air India to reduce the high ticket rate to Gulf countries from Kannur. Compared to other airports, Air India charges high ticket rates for flights to gulf countries from Kannur airport.

More air connectivity is needed to Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Bahrain, Riyadh, Jeddah, Singapore and Malaysia. At present, Air India Express is operating four international services from Kannur.

At present, international airlines are not permitted to operate service from Kannur. The union minstry of civil aviation has to review the decision.
